Reflective Rhythm
By the lakes of Udaipur- reflection of light in water
A collection of cushions inspired from reflection of light in water. This was developed during a project with the Ministry of Minority affairs while working with patchwork and applique artisans in Delwara.
Udaipur is known as the city of lakes, with hotels and palaces surrounding the lakes; it forms a picturesque view of reflection of light in water.
The reflections in water create interesting textures and surfaces which have been converted into forms so as to adapt to the craft.
Delwara also has a lake known as ‘Palera Talab’ and a stepwell ‘Kund’ both of which form surfaces of reflection.
This theme forms a great example of taking inspiration from our surroundings.

Inspiration
Process and Concepts
I decided to incorporate a rich colour palette and work with materials such as silk, corduroy, organza, zari, brass beads to create a iridescent look, similar to that of lights in water.
Reflection of light in the lakes of Udaipur resembles liquid gold, it has a royal appeal to it, I wanted to bring about this look by working with these materials.
I wanted the theme to be relatable, so that the artisans could understand that inspiration can be extracted from the environment around them.
The project was about enhancing their skills while teaching them basic design process and conceptualisation.
